Most people are confused with the two terms – Academics and Education
Academics is what happens in School and College. It happens for a limited time period and a certificate is issued at the end. Usually, some amount of money is charged for that. And only literate people benefit from academics.
Whereas Education can happen anywhere and everywhere. You can get educated by paying or free of cost. Both literates and illiterates benefit from it.
To site an example, once when my son was in his 4th standard, I took him and went to a shop. As I was selecting the items, my son was doing mental calculations...there were a lot of items... and at the end mentioned the total cost.
The shopkeeper challenged him saying that his calculation was wrong and she gave her figure. Finally we checked with her calculator and found that she was the one who was right. And she had not gone to school beyond 3rd standard.
The above example proves that an individual can be educated whether they have been into academics or not.
During my school days, there was once a cricket series between India and New Zealand. Often during break, the DD would show the maps and flags of both countries.
During my exam, the teacher had asked to colour the New Zealand map. I hadn’t studied it. But I recollected it due to watching cricket.
Am sure, each of you all too have some incident like above.
So as an adult, please encourage the children to learn not just from books. But from everywhere.
Let them not just gather knowledge, but also experience and experiment it and grow wise.
Let us not be just a “Literate” country…but rather an “Educated” one filled with Wisdom.
Actually, it is a natural tendency of children to learn from every moment and experience. It is just that we need to notice it, get them to inter relate their personal learnings with the academics. When this happens their curiosity and enquiry mind is triggered and they pick up concepts for life long.
I have experienced this several times with my own children, the children I teach at school and at my study centre. I have seen that this is true for children of all ages and gender
Am now working with my team to bring in a solution to reach larger section of children, parents, teachers and schools... resulting in joyous children and also stress-free and satisfied teachers and parents...
Will update you all soon...
