Every child has the right to expect peace, prosperity, joy and blissful environment to be born and grow.
It is our duty as adults to provide it for them.
I am reminded of the last conversation between me and my best friend’s son. He is no more with us. But his words still ring my ears...
The topic of our discussion was Academics. He is a topper and had scored very well in his boards. But he refused to join the very reputed Engineering or Medical course and instead decided to study B.Com in a very reputed college.
He told me that he was frustrated to study B.Com too. He told me “Aunty these people have created a mess in the society and want us to study the mess and continue that mess. I am not for it aunty.”
I was awe struck when I realised how mature he was. Truly, our Financial system, Housing system, Education system and all the systems badly need repairs
I told him, “Look here Raffid, your parents are rich and so you can afford to be choosy. But not the other children. I have planned a lot of activities like MyOpenSkool.in, AgriSkool, Nature’s Mothers Connect. Can you support me ?"
For which he agreed with a big smile.
Unfortunately, nature plucked him away and now am left alone, living with his voice.
Am sure he is helping me from where ever he is...

It is easy to go with the collective thinking. The masses give one a sense of safety. When I opted to do literature almost 4 decades ago I was asked But you are bright.....the question on their mind never got expressed verbally to me.
ReplyDeleteI chose to pursue my master's in literature and chose to be a teacher not because other options weren't open
It was my way of making a difference....to engage in socratic dialogues with the young minds I interacted with. Let me tell you the young are very clear in a lot of cases it is the worldly aware adults who are confused and put speed breaks in the way of many a young mind waiting to take on the world. We as adults don't need to device activities for the child if we journey with them in their exploration without imposing our notions it can be the greatest encouragement to date to be different.
Sad for the young life that abruptly came to a halt.
True ma’am…you are absolutely right…I am seeing the social media…the work of our upcoming generation…it’s so blissful
DeleteVazhga valamudan, I have seen very few such a mature child in my life. As an elder we can guide them let them think and choose the best. When I was in a workshop with Nammalvar, I raised one question he was not replied me instead he questioned me and made me to think and more over he was given some references to get the complete the answer. The best way to guide a child make them to understand by raising questions why why why...
ReplyDeleteExactly !!! It's called Socrates questioning method of conversation/teaching
